SSC Quantitative Aptitude Boats & Streams Question Bank Train and Boat (I)

  • question_answer
Two towns A and B are 500 km apart. A train starts at 8 am from A towards B at a speed of 70 km/h. At 10 am another train starts from B towards A at a speed of 110 km/h. When will the two trains meet?

    A) 1 pm

    B) 12 noon

    C) 12:30 pm

    D) 1:30 pm

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    [b] Let both trains meet x h. Train B starts, after \[\therefore \]Distance covered by first train\[=(x+2)\times 70\,km\]and distance covered by second train \[=x\times 110\,km\] \[\therefore \]    \[110x+140+70x=500\] \[\Rightarrow \]            \[180x=360\] \[\Rightarrow \]            \[x=2\] Hence, both trains meet each other at 12 noon.
