    D)  Neither 1 nor 2 is correct

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Ram Setu or Sethusamudram or Adam's Bridge is an ancient bridge made up of 30 km long chain of shoals and sandbars between the southernmost island of Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu state of India and Talaimannar of Sri Lanka. The 1-10 metre shallow sea between Rameshwaram and Talaimannar is not suitable for navigation and the Government of India has planned a sea waterway by dredging a part of the sea so as to provide a direct shipping route between Kanniyakumari and Tuticorin on one hand and other ports of the eastern coast of the country on the other. If and when completed, it will reduce the travel distance and save a lot of time and fuel.
