Why do we fail to observe the diffraction from a wide slit illuminated by monochromatic light?

    Answer:

When the size of the slit is large, the central maximum is small in size and the variation in the intensity of the other maxima and minima is so small that they cannot be distinguished. That is why we fail to observe the diffraction pattern. Instead, we see a sharp image of the object.
