It is easier to draw a Wooden block along an inclined plane than to rise it vertically, because

    A)  friction decreased

    B)  only part of the weight is to be overcome

    C)  g is decreased

    D)  none of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The component of weight acting along the inclined plane is\[mg\sin \theta \]. So, the minimum force required to push the block up the plane is\[mg\sin \theta \]. To raise an object of mass\[m\]vertically in gravity, the minimum force required is equal to the weight of the object. Thus, it is easier to the weight of the object. Thus, it is easier to draw a wooden block along an inclined plane as lesser force is required. Note that, though the force applied to move the block along the inclined plane is lesser but it is to be applied for a greater distance, and the work done on the block in both the situations is same. This work done is equal to change in potential energy of the block, which depends only on the vertical displacement between the final and initial position and not on the actual path followed.
