    Rajesh and his friend read about the GM crops. They also decided to grow a GM crop. One of their colleagues told them that growing a GM crop is not so easy and it takes a long procedure to do so.
    (i) Which government organisation will they approach to obtain clearance for its mass production?
    (ii) Why is such a body necessary? Give two reasons.
    (iii) What values are shown by Rajesh and his friend?

    Answer:

    (i) GEAC (Genetic Engineering Approval Committee) is an Indian government organisation set-up for regulation of GMO production. It is concerned with
    (a) Validation of research for Genetic Modification GM of an organism.
    (b) Inspecting the safety of GMOs before being introduced for public services.
    Thus, Rajesh and his friend would have to seek approval from GEAC before producing GM crops.                    
    (ii) The organisation like GEA Care necessary because
    (a) Genetic modification of an organism can have unpredictable result when introduced into an ecosystem. It is therefore necessary to evaluate GMOs before their introduction in environment.
    (b) The modification of living organisms for public services is unethical and is exploited vastly. 
    (iii) Rajesh and his friend are knowledgeable and possess scientific attitude.
