It has been recorded that the temperature of earth has increased by\[0.6{}^\circ C\]during the past century.
    (i) What has caused this increase?
    (ii) Explain its consequences.
    Or
Due to uncontrolled excessive hunting, the population of tigers in a forest has reached to zero. Discuss the long term effects of this situation on the population of deer in that forest.

    Answer:

    (i) Increase in the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases like \[C{{O}_{2}},\,\,C{{H}_{4}},\]etc., has resulted in the rise of earth's temperature by 0.6°C leading to global warming.
(ii) Consequences of this increase in temperature can be as follows
    I. Increased melting of polar ice caps.
II. Odd climatic changes such as El Nino effect.
    Or
If the number of predators (tigers) is reduced, the prey (deer) population will achieve very high population densities. It will increase the pressure on vegetation. As a result, plant population will decrease due to overgrazing. Less vegetation puts competitive pressure on deer population and consequently, deer population will decrease due to starvation, death or migration. Thus, ultimately causing instability of the ecosystem.
