    Solution :

    The equivalent discount of two successive discounts of 20% and 20% \[=\,\left( x+y+\frac{xy}{100} \right)%\] \[=\,\left( -20-20+\frac{20\times 20}{100} \right)%\,\,\text{or}\,-36%\] Given, 36%-35% = Rs 22 Let the amount be \[x\]. then,         1% of \[x=22\] \[\frac{1\times x}{100}=22\] \[x=\text{Rs}\,\,2200\] \[\therefore \] Amount of the bill = Rs 2200
