    Direction:  Each of the next 15 questions consists of two statements, one labelled as 'assertion' (A) and other as 'Reason' (R). You are to examine these two statements carefully and select the correct answer.
    Assertion (A) X, because of unsoundness of mind, not knowing the nature of the act, attacks V, who in self defence and in order to ward off the attack, hits him thereby causing him hurt. V does not commit an offence.
    Reason (R) V has a right of private defence against X under IP(C)

    A)  Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

    B)  Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A

    C)  A is true, but R is false

    D)  A is false, but R is true                           

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    According to Section 98 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Both A and R are correct and R is the correct explanation of (A), as per Section 98 of IPC, Y has not committed any offence, because Y has the same right of private defence which he would have if X were same.
