A, B and C enter into partnership in a business with capitals of Rs 5000, Rs 6000 and Rs 4000, respectively. A gets 30 % of the profit for managing the business and balance is divided in proportion to their capitals. At the end of the year. A gets Rs 200 more than B and C together. Find the total profit.

    A)  Rs 3600

    B)  Rs 3000

    C)  Rs 2875

    D)  Rs 2550

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Let the total profit be Rs x. Amount of profit \[=\,\left( x-\frac{3x}{10} \right)=\text{Rs}\,\,\left( \frac{7x}{10} \right)\] Ratio of capitals = 5000  : 6000 : 4000 or 5 : 6 : 4 \[\therefore \] A?s share \[=\,\left[ \left( \frac{7x}{10}\times \frac{5}{15} \right)+\frac{3x}{10} \right]=\text{Rs}\,\,\left( \frac{8x}{15} \right)\] B?s share \[=\,\left[ \frac{7x}{10}\times \frac{6}{15} \right]=\text{Rs}\,\,\left( \frac{7x}{25} \right)\] C?s share \[=\,\left[ \left( \frac{7x}{10}\times \frac{4}{15} \right) \right]=\text{Rs}\,\left( \frac{14x}{15} \right)\] \[\therefore \] \[\frac{7x}{25}+\frac{14x}{75}+200=\frac{8x}{15}\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[x=3000\] Thus, the total profit is Rs 3000.
