(a) Kari loved to be taken to the river for a bath. He would lie down on the sand bank and the narrator would rub his body. After that he was washed with water. During all this, he would make joyful sounds.

(b) Soapy did not like to go to people who were known to him because they would ask a lot of personal questions which he did not want to answer. They might even make him do work washing their clothes. So he did not want to go to them.

(c) The stranger who came to the shop of Mr. Purcell one day had just been released from jail after ten years of imprisonment. He wore a cheap, ill-fitted suit and his hair was closely cropped. His eyes were scanning the whole shop as he wanted to buy something in a cage.
