    [b] The Gurjara Pratihara was an Indian Gurjara imperial dynasty that ruled much of Northern India from the 6th to 11th centuries. The Pratihara were a branch of the famous Gurjara tribe, who came in large numbers to ' India, during the Hunas invasion from Central Asia. The early history of Pratihara is preserved in the Gwalior Inscription of Bhoja, the 7th king of the dynasty. Kannauj was the capital of Gurjara Pratiharas. The word Pratihara means producer or who takes over the enemy of opponent and was used by Gurjara Pratihara rulers as self- designation.
