Train A crosses a pole in 50 seconds and another Train B crosses it in 1 min and 10 sec. The length of Train A is one-third the length of Train B. What is the ratio of the speed of Train A to that of Train B?

    A)  5:9

    B)  7:15

    C)    15:13

    D)    17:15

    E)  7:11

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Let the length of Train B be x m. Then, length of train \[A=\frac{x}{3}m\] Now, ratio of speed of Train A to that of Train \[B=\left( \frac{x}{3}\div 50 \right):(x\div 70)\] \[=\frac{x}{3\times 50}\times \frac{70}{x}=7:15\]
