    Solution :

    Let the length be\[l\]and breadth be b. Then, perimeter of the floor = 2(\[l\]+ b) or, \[2(l+b)=168\] or, \[l+b=84\,\,f\text{eet}\] \[l\] : b = 17 : 11 (given) Length of the floor \[l=\frac{17}{(17+11)}\times 84=17\times 3=51\,\,feet\] and breadth\[=\frac{11}{(17+11)}\times 84=11\times 3=33\,feet\] \[\therefore \] Area of the floor = 51\[\times \]33 = 1683 sq feet \[\therefore \] Cost of laying the carpet = 1683\[\times \]5 = Rs. 8415
