Direction: Study the table below and answer the following questions. There are five sellers P, Q, R, S and T. They are selling four different items. The discount (as percentage) is given on the marked price of these four items by different sellers.
(Note: 1. Some values are missing. You have to calculate these values as per data given in the questions.)
    2. Marked price of a particular item is same for all of the sellers.
The average selling price of item II of sellers, P and Q is Rs. 3225, and that of sellers Q and R is Rs. 3870. Find the selling price (in Rs.) of item II by R.

    A)  Rs. 6400

    B)  Rs. 8100

    C)    Rs. 9516

    D)    Rs. 7310

    E)  None of these

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Let the marked price of item II be 100a \[\therefore \] Selling price of item II of seller P \[=70\times \frac{100a}{100}=70a\] Similarly, selling price of item II of seller Q \[=\left( 100-y \right)a\] According to the question, \[\frac{70a+(100-y)a}{2}=3225\] or, \[70a+(100-y)a=3225\times 2\] or, \[(170-y)a=3225\times 2\]                   ?(i) Selling price of item II of seller R \[=85\times \frac{100a}{100}=85a\] According to the question, \[\frac{85a+(100-y)a}{2}=3870\] or, \[85a+\left( 100-y \right)a=3870\times 2\] or, \[\left( 185-y \right)a=3870\times 2\]     ... (ii) Dividing (i) by (ii), we get \[\frac{170-y}{185-y}=\frac{3225}{3870}\] or, \[\frac{170-y}{185-y}=\frac{5}{6}\] or, \[1020-6y=925-5y\] or, \[y=1020-925=95\] \[\therefore \] y = 95 From (i), \[(170-95)a=3225\times 2\] or, \[75a=3225\times 2\] or, \[a=86\] Selling price of item II by \[R=100\times 86\times \frac{85}{100}\] \[=Rs.\,7310\]
