    Solution :

     Let the consecutive odd numbers be x, x+2, x+4, x+6, x+8, x+10, x+12, x+14 and the consecutive even numbers be y, y+2, y+4, y+6. Hence x+x+2+x+4+x+6+x+8+x+10 +x+12+x+14=688 \[\Rightarrow 8x+56=688\] \[\therefore x=\frac{688-56}{8}=79\] Again, \[y+y+2+y+4+y+6=\text{ }276\] \[\Rightarrow 4y=276-12=264\] \[\therefore y=66\] \[\therefore \text{Reqd sum = 79 + 70 = 149}\]
