  • question_answer
2 Litre 2 M aqueous \[CuS{{O}_{4}}\] is electrolyzed using platinum electrodes and \[2\times 96500\,C\] charge is passed through it then what would be new conc. of\[(C{{u}^{2+}})\]in solution.

    A)  2 M

    B)  1.5 M

    C)  1 M

    D)  0.5 M

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    No. of moles of \[CuS{{O}_{4}}=2\times 2=4\] Equivalent wt of \[CuS{{O}_{4}}=\frac{{{M}_{CuS{{O}_{4}}}}}{2}\] 1C charge will deposit\[\frac{E}{96500}\]gm of \[C{{u}^{2+}}\] {E=Equivalent wt} \[\therefore \]\[2\times 96500C\]will deposit \[=2\times 96500\times \frac{E}{96500}=2E={{M}_{CuS{{O}_{4}}}}\] \[\therefore \]No of moles remaining \[=4-1=3\]moles \[\therefore \]Molarity\[=\frac{3}{2}=1.5\,\text{M}\]
