  • question_answer
Consider two light sources of wavelength \[{{\lambda }_{1}}\]and \[{{\lambda }_{2}}({{\lambda }_{1}}>{{\lambda }_{2}})\]which are emitting \[{{n}_{1}}\] and \[{{n}_{2}}\] photons respectively, in a given time. Assume equal power for both the sources, then

    A)  \[{{n}_{1}}>{{n}_{2}}\]

    B)  \[{{n}_{1}}<{{n}_{2}}\]

    C)  \[{{n}_{1}}={{n}_{2}}\]

    D)  Can't say anything

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Power \[=\frac{energy}{time}=\frac{\left[ {{n}_{1}}\left( \frac{hc}{{{\lambda }_{1}}} \right) \right]}{\Delta t}=\frac{\left[ {{n}_{2}}\left( \frac{hc}{{{\lambda }_{2}}} \right) \right]}{\Delta t}\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[\frac{{{n}_{1}}}{{{\lambda }_{1}}}=\frac{{{n}_{2}}}{{{\lambda }_{2}}}\]As\[\frac{{{\lambda }_{1}}}{{{\lambda }_{2}}}>1\] \[\therefore \]\[{{n}_{1}}>{{n}_{2}}\]
