In the Zener diode circuit used as a dc regulated power supply, the load current was 4.0 mA with an unregulated power of 10 volt. The Zener voltage is 6.0 volt and permissible current is five times the load current. The series resistance to be used \[({{R}_{s}})\] is

    A)  \[100\,\Omega \]

    B)  \[169\,\Omega \]

    C)  \[167\,\Omega \]

    D)  \[200\,\Omega \]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    \[{{Z}_{\upsilon }}=6\] volt, \[{{V}_{i}}=10\,\] volt V across \[{{R}_{s}}=10-6=4\,\] volt Current through \[{{R}_{s}}={{I}_{\,z}}+{{I}_{L}}\] \[=(5\times 4)mA+4\,mA=24\,mA\] \[\therefore \,\,{{R}_{s}}=\frac{{{V}_{S}}}{{{I}_{S}}}=\frac{4}{24\times {{10}^{-3}}}=\frac{1}{6}\times {{10}^{3}}\] \[=0.1\overline{\,66}\times {{10}^{3}}=167\,\Omega \]
