    Rs. 1000 is invested at 5% per annum simple interest. If the interest is added to the principal after every 10 yr, the amount will become Rs. 2000 after

    A) 15 yr

    B)  18 yr

    C)  20 yr

    D)  \[16\frac{2}{3}\]yr

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    After 10 yr,
    \[\text{SI}=\frac{1000\times 5\times 10}{100}\]= Rs. 500
    Principal for 11th year and next
    \[=1000+500\]= Rs. 1500
    SI = Rs. \[(2000-1500)\] = Rs. 500
    \[\therefore \]      \[T=\frac{SI\times 100}{P\times R}=\frac{500\times 100}{1500\times 5}\]
    \[=\frac{20}{3}\text{yr}=6\frac{2}{3}\text{yr}\]
    \[\therefore \]Total time \[=10+6\frac{2}{3}=16\frac{2}{3}\text{yr}\]
