My grandfather was 8 times older than me 16 yr ago. He would be 3 times of my ago, 8 yr from now 8 yr ago, what was the ratio of my age to that on grandfather?

Let 16 yr ago,

Grandson's age = x yr

\[\therefore \] Grandfather's age = 9 x yr

After 8 yr from now,

\[9x+16+8=3\,\,(x+16+8)\]

\[\Rightarrow \] \[9x+24=3x+72\]

\[\Rightarrow \] \[6x=48\]\[\therefore \]\[x=\frac{48}{6}=8\]

Son's present age\[=x+16=8+16=24\]

Grandfather's present age

\[=9x+16=9\times 8+16=88\]

Before 8 yr son's age\[=24-8=16\]

Before 8 yr Grandfather's age \[=88-8=80\]

\[\therefore \] The required ratio = 16 : 80 = 1 : 5
