The perimeters of two squares are 40 cm and 32 cm. The perimeter of a third square whose area is the difference of the areas of the two squares is

    A) 24 cm

    B)  42 cm

    C)  40 cm

    D)  20 cm

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Side of one square \[=\frac{40}{4}=10\,\,\text{cm}\][\[\because \]Perimeter = 4 \[\times \]Side]
    Side of other square \[=\frac{32}{4}=8\,\,\text{cm}\]
    According to the question,
    Area of third square
    \[={{(10)}^{2}}-{{(8)}^{2}}=100-64=36\,\text{sq}\,\,\text{cm}\]
    \[\therefore \]Side of, third square \[=\sqrt{36}=6\]cm
    \[\therefore \]Its perimeter \[=4\times 6=24\]cm
