    Solution :

    Let man' rate upstream be x km/h. Then, man's rate downstream \[=2x\text{ km/h}\text{.}\] Man's rate in still water \[=\frac{1}{2}(2x+x)\text{km/h}=\frac{3x}{2}\text{km/h}\] \[\therefore \]\[\frac{3x}{2}=6\]\[\Leftrightarrow \]\[x=\frac{(2\times 6)}{3}=4\]
