If costs him Rs. 40 in materials and labour to produce item and he has overhead expenses of Rs. 3000 per week in order to operate the plant. The number of items he should produce and sell in order to make a profit of at least Rs. 1000 per week is

    Solution :

    Let the number of items be 'x'. Then, selling price of items = 60x Cost of the material = 40x Overhead expenses = Rs. 3000 \[\therefore \]      \[60x-(40x+3000)=1000\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[20x=4000\] \[x=\frac{4000}{20}=200\]
