A man bought two goats for Rs. 1008. He sold one at loss of 20% and other at a profit of 44%. If each goat was sold for the same price the cost price of the goat which was sold at loss, was

    A)           Rs. 648

    B)  Rs. 360

    C)  Rs. 568

    D)  Rs. 440

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    If Rs.\[x\]and Rs. y be the cost price of two goats, then 80% of \[x=144%\]of y \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{x}{y}=\frac{144}{80}=\frac{9}{5}\]i.e., \[x:y=9:5\] Sum of the ratios \[=9+5=14\] \[\therefore \] Cost of first goat = Rs.\[\left( \frac{9}{14}\times 1008 \right)\]= Rs. 648
