  • question_answer
The difference between two parallel sides of a trapezium is 4 cm and the perpendicular distance between them is 19 cm. Find the lengths of the parallel sides, if the area of the trapezium is \[475\,\,c{{m}^{2}}\]

    A)  22 cm, 18 cm

    B)  25 cm, 21cm

    C)  29 cm, 25 cm

    D)  27 cm, 23 cm

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Let the lengths of the parallel sides of the trapezium be cm and b cm.                                        Then, according to question,                       \[(a-b)=4\]                                 ?(i) and \[\frac{1}{2}\times (a+b)\times 19=475\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[a+b=\frac{950}{19}=50\]                   ?(ii) By solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get                 a = 27 and b = 23                 Thus, length of parallel sides are 27 cm and 23 cm.
