  • question_answer
A square has its side equal to the radius of a sphere. The square revolves round a side to generate a surface of total area S. If A be the surface area of the sphere, which one of the following is correct?

    A)  A = 3S

    B)  A = 2S

    C)  A = S

    D)  A < S

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let side of square \[=x\] \[\therefore \]      Radius of sphere \[=x\] Surface area of sphere, \[A=4\pi {{x}^{2}}\] Since, square revolves round a side to generate a cylinder whose height and radius are x and x. respectively. \[\therefore \]      \[S=2\pi \times (x+x)=4\pi {{x}^{2}}\] \[\therefore \]      It is clear that A = S
