A man bought a number of oranges at 3 for a rupee and an equal number at 2 for a rupee. At what price per dozen should he sell them to make a profit of 20%?

    A) Rs. 4

    B)  Rs.5

    C)  Rs. 6

    D)  Rs. 7

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Given,
Cost price of 3 oranges of 1st variety = Rs. 1
Cost price of 1 orange of 1st variety = Rs. \[\frac{1}{3}\]
Cost price of 2 oranges of 2nd variety = Rs. 1
Cost price of 1 orange of 2nd variety = Rs. \[\frac{1}{2}\]
Total cost price of 2 oranges of different variety
    \[(150-60)=\]= Rs. \[\frac{5}{6}\]
    Profit on 2 organes= 20% of \[\frac{5}{6}=\frac{20}{100}\times \frac{5}{6}\]= Rs.\[\frac{1}{6}\]
    \[\therefore \] Selling price of 2 oranges \[=\frac{5}{6}+\frac{1}{6}=1\]
Hence, selling price of 12 oranges Rs. 6
