    A)  Great Himalaya, Middle Himalaya, Outer Himalaya, Trans Himalaya

    B)  Trans Himalaya, Great Himalaya, Middle Himalaya, Outer Himalaya

    C)  Middle Himalaya, Great Himalaya, Trans Himalaya, Outer Himalaya

    D)  Outer Himalaya, Middle Himalaya, Great Himalaya, Trans Himalaya

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

[b] Trans Himalaya is created due to the collision with Eurasian plate. This Zone is the Northern most area in the country in the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. It is an extension of Tibetan plateau around the Himalayas. Greater Himalayas is the highest range of Himalaya. This range is separated from Lesser Himalaya by Main Central Thrust and lies north of it. World's highest peak Mount Everest and some other tallest peaks are in this range. The Mahabharata Range also called the Lesser Himalaya - is a major east-west mountain range with elevations 3,700 to 4,500m (12,000 to 14,500 feet) along the crest, paralleling the much higher Great Himalaya range from the Indus River in Pakistan across northern India, Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan but then the two ranges become increasingly difficult to differentiate east of Bhutan as the ranges approach the Brahmaputra River. The Mahabharata range also parallels the lower Shivalik or Churia Range (Outer Himalaya) to the south. Geologically, the Shivalik Hills belong to the tertiary deposits of the outer Himalayas. They are the southernmost and geologically youngest east-west mountain chain of the Himalayas.
