    [b] Lieutenant-General Sir James Outram, was an English general who fought in the Rebellion of 1857. In 1854 he was appointed resident at Lucknow, in which capacity two years later he carried out the annexation of Oudh and became the first chief commissioner of that province. John Nicholson was best known for his role in the Mutiny of 1857, planning and leading the Storming of Delhi. Decisive battle of Kanpur (6 Dec, 1857); the armies of Rao Sahib and of Tantya Tope are routed by Sir Colin Campbell. During the 1857 Mutiny. Hugh Rose has defeated our fighters at Jhansi in April 1858, at Lahore in May 1858 and at Gwalior in June 1858.
