    [d] The total reserves of bauxite in India are estimated at 27.40 crores tonnes. The major bauxite producing states in India are Orissa, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Goa in a descending order of importance. According to Geological Survey of India, our total manganese reserves are estimated at 16.7 crores tonnes. India has the second largest manganese ore reserves in the world after Zimbabwe. About one-fifth of the world's manganese ores are found in India. India is the fifth largest producer manganese ore after Brazil, Gabon, South Africa and Australia. Orissa and Karnataka produce more than half of the India's manganese ores with Orissa producing about 33% manganese ore of India. About 24% of India's manganese ore is produced by Karnataka. Singhbhum was a district of India during the British Raj, part of the Chota Nagpur Division of the Bengal Presidency. It was located in the present-day Indian state of Jharkhand.
