Futuhat-1-Alamgir, an indispensable source for the historical reconstruction of Aurangzeb's reign seems to have been compiled despite Aurangzeb's banning of the contemporary official chronicles. It was completed in 1749-50, long after Aurangzeb's death, when the author was at a very advanced age. According to the concluding section of the text, the book was written "for the information of Lâlao?âl" possibly a grandson of the author.
