  • question_answer
A physical quantity x is calculated from relation\[\lambda ={{(ab)}^{2}}\,\sqrt{c}\]. If a, b and c are measured respectively with error 1%, 3% and 2%, then the percentage error in calculation of x is

    A)  \[4\,%\] %

    B)  \[9\,%\]%

    C)  \[12\,%\] %

    D)  None of these

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Here \[x={{(ab)}^{2}}\sqrt{c}={{a}^{2}}\,{{b}^{2}}\,{{c}^{1/2}}\] \[\therefore \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\frac{\Delta x}{x}=2\frac{\Delta a}{a}+\frac{2\Delta b}{b}+\frac{1}{2}\,\,\frac{\Delta c}{c}\] \[\Rightarrow \,\,\,\,\,\,\frac{\Delta x}{x}\times 100=\frac{2\Delta a}{a}\times 100+2\frac{\Delta b}{b}\times 100+\frac{1}{2}\frac{\Delta C}{C}\times 100\]\[\Rightarrow \,\,\,\,\,\,\frac{\Delta x}{x}\times 100=2\times 1+2\,\times 3+\frac{1}{2}\times 2=2+6+1=9%\]%
