Atomic number of Mn, Fe and Co are 25, 26 and 27 respectively. Which of the following inner orbital octahedral complex ions are diamagnetic? (i) \[{{[CO{{(N{{H}_{3}})}_{6}}]}^{3\,+}}\]   (ii) \[[Mn{{\left( CN \right)}_{6}}]{{\,}^{3}}^{-}\] (iii) \[[Fe{{\left( CN \right)}_{6}}]{{\,}^{4\,-}}\] (iv) \[[Fe{{\left( CN \right)}_{6}}]{{\,}^{3\,-}}\]

    A)  (i) and (ii) only

    B)  (ii) and (iii) only

    C)  (i) and (iii) only

    D)  All of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[C{{o}^{3\,+}}\,and\,\,F{{e}^{2\,+}}\] contains \[{{d}^{6}}\] configuration and the unpaired electrons are paired by strong field ligands, i.e., \[N{{H}_{3}}\] and \[C{{N}^{-}},\,\,{{\left[ CO{{(N{{H}_{3}})}_{6}} \right]}^{3\,+}}\] and \[{{\left[ Fe{{(CN)}_{6}} \right]}^{4\,-}}\] are diamagnetic complexes. In \[F{{e}^{3\,+\,}}\] and \[M{{n}^{3\,+\,}}\] unpaired electrons remain even, after pairing, so there are paramagnetic.
