    [a] Let x litres and y litres be the mixtures in two vessels. \[\Rightarrow \,\,\frac{4}{7}\,x+\frac{2}{5}\,y=\frac{1}{2}(x+y)\] \[\Rightarrow \,\,\frac{4}{7}\,x-\frac{1}{2}x=\frac{1}{2}y-\frac{2}{5}y\] \[\Rightarrow \,\frac{1}{14}x=\frac{1}{10}y.\,\,Thus\,\,\frac{x}{y}=\frac{7}{5}\,\,or\,x:y=7:5\]
