If a man earns Rs. 2000 for his first 50 h of work in a week and is then paid one and one half times his regular hourly rate for any additional hours, then the hours must he work to make Rs. 2300 in a week is

    A) 4 h

    B) 5 h

    C) 6 h

    D) 7 h

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Rate of earning of the man \[=\frac{2000}{50}=\text{Rs}\text{. 40 per hour}\]
Rate of earning for additional hours
                \[=40\times \frac{3}{2}=Rs.\,60\,\text{per}\,\text{hour}\]
Let the man has to work for n additional hours. Then,
    \[2000+n\times 60=2300\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[n\times 60=300\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[n=5\,h\]
