A man sold his watch at a loss of 5%. Had he sold it for Rs. 56.25 more, he would have gained 10%. What is the cost price of the watch (in Rs.)?                                                                               [SSC (10+2) 2014]

    A) 370

    B) 365

    C) 375

    D) 390

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let CP of the watch be Rs. x.
    According to the question,
    \[\frac{x\times (100+10)}{100}-\frac{x\times (100-5)}{100}=56.25\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{110x}{100}-\frac{95x}{100}=56.25\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[\frac{15x}{100}=56.25\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]               \[x=\frac{56.25\times 100}{15}=\frac{5625}{15}\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=Rs.\,375\]
