The speed of the boat in still water is 5 times the speed of the current. It takes 1.1 h to row to point B from point A downstream. The distance between point A and point B is 13.2 km. How much distance will it cover in 312 min upstream?

    A) 43.2 km

    B) 48 km

    C) 41.6 km

    D) 44.8 km

    E) 40 km

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let the speed of current be x km/h.
Then, speed of boat in still water = 5x km/h
    Speed of boat in downstream
    \[=5x+x=6x\,km/h\]
    Distance between A and B \[=6x\times 1.1.=6.6x\,km\]
    Now,     \[6.6x=13.2\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=2\] \[\therefore \] Speed of current = 2 km/h
Speed of boat in still water \[=5\times 2=10\,km/h\]
Speed of boat in upstream \[=10-2=8\,km/h\]
    Distance covered \[=8\times \frac{312}{60}=\frac{2\times 312}{15}\times 41.6\,km\]
