Out of the remaining amount, he gave to his son and daughter in the ratio of 7: 8, respectively. If the daughter got Rs. 3806 more than the son, what was the total amount that Mr. Sharma had?

    A) Rs. 60000

    B) Rs. 78650

    C) Rs. 86500

    D) Rs. 80500

    E) Rs. 72400

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let total amount that Mr. Sharma had be 7x,
Then, amount given to his son and daughter
    \[=x-(12+22)\]%of x
    = 66% of x = 0.66x
    Now, according to the question,
                \[\frac{1}{15}\times 0.66x=3806\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=3806\times \frac{15}{0.66}=Rs.\,86500\]
