A jogger running at 9 km/h alongside a railway track is 240 m ahead of the engine of a 120 m long train running at 45 km/h in the same direction. In how much time will the train pass the jogger?

    A) 70 s

    B) 36 s

    C) 56 s

    D) 18 s

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Total speed of jogger and train
    \[=45-9=36\,km/h\]
(because train and jogger is in same direction)
    Total speeds = 36km/h \[=36\times \frac{5}{18}m/s=10\,m/s\]
\[\therefore \] Time taken by train to pass the jogger
    \[=\frac{\text{Total}\,\text{distance}}{\text{Total}\,\text{speed}}=\frac{(120+240)}{10}=\frac{360}{10}s=36\,s\]
