How many even 3-digit numbers can be formed from the digits 1, 2, 5, 6 and 9 without repeating any of the digits?

    A)  120

    B)  48

    C)  40

    D)  24

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

[d] for digit to be even, units digit will be even. From the given digits, only 2 and 6 satisfy condition. \[\therefore \] Units place will always be 2 or 6. Then, rest two places will be occupied by any of the four digits i.e. \[{}^{4}{{P}_{2}}=\frac{4!}{(4-2)!}=\frac{4\times 3\times 2}{2}=12\] \[\therefore \] Total even numbers formed by digits 1, 2, 5 and 6 \[=\,\,12\times 2=24\]
