If in village Y, the number of males is 20% more than the number of males in village X and the number of females is 12% less than those in village X, then what will be the respective ratio of males to females in village Y         [SBI Associate (Clerk) 2014]

    A)  15: 11

    B)  17: 5

    C)  17: 11

    D)  23: 9

    E)  15: 7

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

[e] Let the number of males and females in village X be \[11x\] and \[7x,\]respectively. Then in village Y, number of males \[=120%\]of \[11x=\frac{6}{5}\times 11x=\frac{66}{5}x\] Number of females = 88% of \[7x=\frac{22}{25}\times 7x=\frac{154}{25}x\] \[\therefore \] Required ratio \[=\frac{66}{5}x:\frac{154}{25}x=15:7\]
