Directions: Each of the questions below consists of a question and three statements I, II and III given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question.                      [IBPS (PO) 2012]
In how many days A alone can complete the work?
    I. A and B together can complete the work in 8 days.
II. B takes twice the time taken by A in completing the work.
III. A and B together take \[\frac{1}{3}\]of the time taken by B alone in completing the work.

    A) I and III

    B) II and either I or III

    C) All I, II and III

    D) Any two of the three

    E) Even with all three statements answer cannot be given

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    I. (A + B)'s 1 clay's work \[=\frac{1}{8}\]
    III. B's 1 day's work \[=\frac{1}{24}\]
    \[\therefore \]A's 1 day's work \[=\frac{1}{8}-\frac{1}{24}=\frac{3-1}{24}=\frac{1}{12}\]
Hence, A alone will do the work in 12 days.
