The cost of five chairs and three tables is Rs. 3110. Cost of one chair is Rs. 210 less than cost of one table. What is the cost of two tables and two chairs?

    A) Rs.  1660

    B) Rs. 1860

    C) Rs.  2600

    D) Cannot be determined

    E) None of the above

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Let cost of 1 table be Rs. x and cost of 1 chair be Rs. y.
    Then,    \[3x+5y=3110\]                         ... (i)
    and       \[y=x-210\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-y=210\]                                … (ii)
On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get
    \[x=520\]and \[y=310\]
    \[\therefore \]Cost of 2 tables and 2 chairs\[=2x+2y=2\,\,(x+y)\]
    \[=2\,\,(520+310)=2\,\,(830)=\text{Rs}\text{.1660}\]
