Two trains start from A and B, respectively and travel towards each other at a speed of 60 km/h and 45 km/h, respectively. By the time they meet, the first train has travelled 30 km more than the second. The distance between A and B is

    A) 240 km

    B) 180 km

    C) 210 km

    D) 175 km

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

At the time of meeting, let the distance travelled by the second train be x km. Then, distance covered by the first train is \[(x+30)km.\]
    \[\frac{x}{45}=\frac{x+30}{60}\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[60x-45x=1350\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[x=\frac{1350}{15}=90\]
    Total distance travelled train \[B=90+30=120\,\,km\]
    \[\therefore \]Difference between point A and B
    \[=90+120=210\,\,km\]
