By mistake instead of dividing Rs. 1692 between A, B and C in the proportion 1/3: 1/4: 1/5, it was divided in the proportion of 3: 4: 5. Who gains most and by what amount?

    A) C, Rs. 273

    B) B, Rs. 24

    C) B, Rs. 26

    D) A, Rs. 46

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    In the first case \[=\frac{1}{3}:\frac{1}{4}:\frac{1}{5}=20:15:12\]
    A gets \[=\frac{20}{47}\times 1692=\text{Rs}\text{. 720}\]
    B gets \[=\frac{15}{47}\times 1692=\text{Rs}\text{. 540}\]
    C gets \[=1692-\,\,(720+540)=\text{Rs}\text{. 432}\]
    In the second case, A gets \[=\frac{3}{12}\times 1692=\text{Rs}\text{. 432}\]
    B gets \[=\frac{4}{12}\times 1692=\text{Rs}\text{.}\,\,\text{564}\]
    and       C gets \[=\frac{5}{12}\times 1692=\text{Rs}\text{. 705}\]
    C gain's most by \[(705-432)=\text{Rs}\text{. 273}\]
