A well with 14 m inside diameter is dug 10 m deep. Earth taken out of it, has been evenly spread all around it to a width of 21 m to form an embankment. The height (in m) of the embankment is

    A)  \[\frac{1}{2}\]

    B)  \[\frac{2}{3}\]

    C)  \[\frac{3}{4}\]

    D)  \[\frac{3}{5}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

[b] Volume of earth dug out
    \[=\left( \frac{22}{7}\times 7\times 7\times 10 \right)=1540\,{{m}^{3}}\]
    Area of embankment \[=\frac{22}{7}[{{(28)}^{2}}-{{(7)}^{2}}]\]
    \[=\frac{22}{7}\times (28+7)(28-7)\]
    \[=\frac{22}{7}\times 35\times 21=2310\]
    \[\therefore \] Height of embankment
    \[=\frac{\text{Volume}}{\text{Area}}=\frac{\text{1540}}{\text{2310}}=\frac{\text{2}}{\text{3}}m\]
