If the second highest score is less than 85 and the second highest and the third highest score are not the same, the highest score should be at least what value? (Consider all scores are integers)                                                                                                                                     [NICL (AO) 2014]

    A)  96

    B)  98

    C)  106

    D)  108

    E)  102

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

[e] Average score of 29 students
Total score of top 3 highest scores
    \[=3\times 68+26\times 2.5\]
    \[=204+65=269\]
Now, second highest score is less than 85.
Let second highest score is 84.
Then, the least highest score \[=269-84=185\]
In the same way highest score should be less than 83 of second highest score.
    Highest score \[=185-83=102\]
Hence, value of the highest score should be 102.
