    Total time taken by a boat travelling from A to B and B to A, is 1 hour 4 minutes. Speed of the boat in still water is 12 kmph and speed of the current is 3 kmph. What is the distance between A to B?

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     Rate upstream \[=12-3\text{ }=\text{ }9\]kmph Rate downstream =12+3 = 15 kmph If the distance .between A and B be x km. then             \[\frac{x}{9}+\frac{x}{15}=1+\frac{4}{60}=1+\frac{1}{15}\]             \[\Rightarrow \frac{5x+3x}{45}=\frac{16}{15}\Rightarrow 8x=16\times 3\] \[\Rightarrow x=\frac{16\times 3}{8}=6\,\,km.\]
