There are four consecutive positive odd numbers and four consecutive positive even numbers. The sum of the highest even number and the highest odd number is 37. What is the sum of all the four consecutive odd and even numbers?

    A)  104

    B)  124

    C)  126

    D)       132

    E)  None of these

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    The sum of respective even and odd numbers from highest to lowest will be 37, (37 - 4) (37 - 8) (37 - 12) or, 37, 33, 29, 25 \[\therefore \] Reqd sum of both odd and even numbers =37+33+29+25=124 Note: There are so many possible groups of such even or odd numbers like (a) \[(2,\text{ }4,\text{ }6,\text{ }8)\leftrightarrow (23,\text{ }25,\text{ }27,\text{ }29)\] (b) \[(4,\text{ }6,\text{ }8,\text{ }10)\leftrightarrow (21,\text{ }23,\text{ }25,\text{ }27)\] (c) \[(6,\text{ }8,\text{ }10,\text{ }12)\leftrightarrow (19,\text{ }21,\text{ }23,\text{ }25)\] And so on. But the required sum will be the same.
