A milkman mixes 20 litres of water with 80 litres of milk. After selling one-fourth of this mixture he adds water to replenish the quantity that he has sold. What is the present ratio of water to milk?

    A)  9:11

    B)  11:13

    C)  5:7

    D)       7:12

    E)  7:15

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Remaining water in the solution \[=20\times \frac{3}{4}=15\text{ litres}\] \[\text{Milk=80}\times \frac{3}{4}=60\text{ litres}\] When he adds 20 litres of water to it total water will be \[\text{= 20 + 15=35 litres}\] So, the required ratio \[\text{= 35 : 60 = 7 : 12}\]
